Five MHS students hold signs as the march from MG&E to the capitol begins. From left to right: Katie Frye (12), Indy Irwin (12), Celia Jones (12), Natasha Kinne (12), and Lane LaBoda (12). They shared their reasons for attending the climate strike. Frye mentioned that reports show we only have ten years to save the planet, so “I’m going to try to do as much as possible, as much as I can, to slow down the effects of climate change, and that includes encouraging my representatives to fight against it with renewable energy and other climate-friendly policies,” she said. LaBoda came because she believes in the power of the students, saying, “People underestimate the kids, but we have the most power of them all, so we got to be here to show off that power.” Jones stated her opinion succinctly: “We have one option left: destroy capitalism or destroy the world, and the choice is yours.”
