This painting illustrates old Chinese buildings in the water village/town of Jiangnan. These villages are known as “Shuixiang”, ancient and historical towns known for their bridges, rivers, and canals. In this piece, I focused on the use of perspective and color. Carefully drawing the buildings with the river through the complementary colors of orange and blue, and the one-point perspective. Throughout the past year, I have been working to connect my artwork with my heritage more. As a Chinese American, I wanted to illustrate the beauties of the traditional housing of the water villages, sharing my culture through my artwork.
