As a senior in high school, I am on the edge of adulthood and will soon have to navigate the world on my own. When I look at my photos of my younger self, I can’t believe how much I have changed over the years. I chose to do this piece in colored pencil and oil pastel because they remind me of art supplies that I used to use as a kid. I thought it would be interesting to showcase how far my art skills have progressed by doing a more realistic portrait of my younger self, and contrasting it with the messy, childlike style in the background. As an adult, I wish to continue to grow and learn, while never losing sight of the wonder and excitement I had as a kid.
