February 14th, otherwise known as Valentine’s Day, is here and love is in the air. Valentine’s Day is celebrated differently in various places. Many go on dates, buy each other chocolates or perhaps purchase a giant teddy bear as a romantic gesture to their partner. Some hang out with their friends, practice self care, or just treat it as a regular day. Regardless of their relationship status, Middleton High School (MHS) students celebrate Valentine’s Day in a variety of ways. Read as MHS students share their plans for Valentine’s Day 2024.
A trending activity for singles still looking to have fun on the 14th is “Galentine’s Day,” where friends celebrate the day with food, games and fun. Celebrating “Galentine’s” is popular among MHS students, who have partaken in the festivities before Wednesday or plan to afterward.
“My friends and I are having a Galentine’s party and I think that will be fun!” said MHS junior Ursula Anstaett, expressing plans to participate in the festivities.
Many also enjoy the gift-giving aspects of Valentine’s Day. From funny cards to heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, treats for friends and family can be found anywhere.
“My favorite Valentine’s Day activity is getting the cheap Valentine’s Day candy,” MHS junior Isobel Ensenberger said, “especially during the sales after the holiday passes.”
Parties, candy, discounts — what more could be added to the festivities during the season of love? MHS students share their love for the holiday, even if not spent traditionally.
“I think it’s great! If you have a person or people to spend it with, go out and have fun,” MHS senior Ricardo Sanchez-Cortes said. Chloe Wedding, an MHS freshman, expressed a similar sentiment: “I think it’s really cute,” she said.
However, despite the excitement in the MHS halls, some don’t enjoy Valentine’s Day as much as others. “I do not believe it is that important,” MHS junior Heidi Boycks said.
“[It’s] definitely not the first holiday that comes to mind when I think of a holiday,” Ensenberger remarked.
Whether you care for Valentine’s day or are just waiting for the day to be over with, hopefully these MHS valentine’s day plans inspired you to pursue whatever Valentine’s Day activities you want to do. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day!
