Dear Readers,
Writing has been a lifelong passion of mine; from collaborative novels written with my friends to short stories and ideas scribbled down at 1 a.m., it’s always been my dream to pursue it in greater depth. However, when I joined The Cardinal Chronicle on a whim in my freshman year, I never could have imagined finding such a vibrant, passionate community of students who care so deeply about student journalism, and have the confidence and perseverance to pursue stories that inform our school community.
I would like to highlight the 2025-26 reporters, photographers and editors for all of their work this year to support and continue the newspaper’s mission of serving as a platform to amplify student voices. With their hard work, we published over 70 articles, took on challenging topics and grew the newspaper’s presence throughout the school.
To the Editorial Board, thank you for being absolutely incredible people without whom The Cardinal Chronicle would not have been able to thrive. Your hard work and dedication to the newspaper does not go unnoticed, and I truly have loved getting to know and work with each one of you. For next year’s Editorial Board, I know that you will continue to support and lead the newspaper with passion and I can’t wait to see what you accomplish!
Specific thanks to Isa Killian, our Managing Editor and A&E Editor, for all of her work to keep the newspaper functioning smoothly and for her continued dedication to running the club. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better person to work with. To Rio Zhu, our Art Hub Director and Features Editor, thank you for keeping all of the submission forms, announcements and Art Hub publications up-to-date and running smoothly; I really couldn’t have done it without you.
To our past Editors-in-Chief and editors, I have learned so much from you all and would never have developed the love for journalism that I have today without your constant support and guidance. I would like to thank last year’s Editor-in-Chief, Ben, for everything you did to keep the club running smoothly and for setting up such a solid foundation in the school community for The Cardinal Chronicle to continue building. To our 2023-24 Editor-in-Chief, Raju, thank you for creating such an inspiring and welcoming environment that made sophomore-me feel comfortable enough to expand my commitment to the club, and for all of your advice and support since then. I can’t thank you both enough.
To Mr. Griffiths, our advisor, thank you for stepping into the role as our advisor and for all of your hard work, editing, and your understanding as we adjusted to a new Editorial Board and school year. Without your work, The Cardinal Chronicle could not function and the commitment that you displayed throughout the school year was a pillar of what made the club so successful.
Last but not least, thank you to all of the MHS teachers, administrators and students who supported, promoted and read the newspaper. We greatly appreciate everything you have done for The Cardinal Chronicle, and we hope that you continue to take advantage of the opportunity to read and share your students’ and peers’ writing next year.
While I will miss the collaborative brainstorms, late-night edits, and creative voices that make up the newspaper, I know that The Cardinal Chronicle will continue to grow and expand throughout the school community. Student journalism matters because it provides an opportunity for teenagers and young adults to make their opinions and voices heard through writing stories and asking questions. I have no doubt that the newspaper will continue supporting this belief, and I hope that you will continue to support it for many more years to come.
