This piece showcases an observational study of the upper body of the Venus de Milo statue. I used thick, muted, yellow-textured paper for this piece to try out the different effects charcoal has on various surfaces. For this piece, I wanted to challenge myself by drawing an observation of a complex object. The intricate details, such as the eyes, nose, mouth, and hair, proved challenging as charcoal often moves easily and can be harder to depict small details.
