“I want a slimmer nose, a smaller jawline, longer eyelashes, no freckles!”
Picture Perfect showcases the pressure society places on appearances and achievements. However, these expectations cause many to forget their true selves, pushing them to morph into someone else. In the process, they kill the authentic them. In Picture Perfect, the hands of society push and pull an already beautiful girl through a picture frame to become “more ideal”. The butterflies symbolize the power of transformation. Once through the frame, the girl can shine brighter and have the “perfect” features. However, in that process, the real girl is lost. The picture frame around the new girl can be seen as a frame to make her picture perfect, but it’s also the same frame placed at funerals. Although she has become the picture-perfect human, she has also lost her genuine self, now only an empty case.
